Shipping Personal Items
There are several shipping companies to choose from when shipping your personal items to The Bahamas but we recommend Tropical Shipping. They may be a bit more expensive than other companies, but we’ve found over the years that their customer service is most helpful and efficient. Pick and choose what you’d like to bring with you.
Most rental homes come furnished and it’s easy enough to purchase household goods at Kelly’s in Nassau, although it might not have the widest selection you are accustomed to, and will be significantly more expensive, but keep in mind that shipping your items in will not only cost you shipping, but also import duty which ranges from 0% to 75%, click here for duty rates on commonly imported items. As of July 1st 2018 we now have 12% Value Added Tax, so you are also required to pay VAT on the value of all goods imported, on top of shipping and import duty.
If you’re looking to import your car, it will cost you between 45%-65% depending on the value of the car. If you would like to purchase a car upon arrival, we recommend you look at Trust Japanese Vehicles, which is an online auction. The cars take up to 6 weeks for arrival, but you’ll get a quality car with any issues or flaws exposed, unlike purchasing a vehicle from a private seller in The Bahamas, you may not know what the issues are. Imported vehicles can only be less than 10 years old to import them.
